Infrared Training and Your Skin

As I was thinking of a topic for this week’s blog post, I found myself looking back at my convention speech (held virtually this year) slide deck to get an idea.  I immediately thought to look back to my slide of customer “one liners” explaining why they love the HOTWORX workout from their online 5 star ratings.  By far, the “workouts” themselves were the main reason for member satisfaction.

My attention was drawn to one of the comments about skin which read, “added bonus…my skin looks and feels amazing too!” Obviously, this customer, like many others, appreciated gaining an added bonus during her workouts. We like to call this infrared effect more workout, less time! After reading that one I decided to use it for a blog topic.

I keep seeing similar skin result comments like that and actually hearing them from our members all the time.  It’s great that customers get that sort of by-product outcome from HOTWORX infrared workouts, but let’s explore WHY it happens. What is the biology behind the result?

According to one scientific study published in 2006, positive anti-aging results can be obtained for the skin through consistent and long term exposure to infrared radiation. In this study, 20 individuals were observed over a 6 month period of time. These patients reported up to a 75% improvement in skin roughness and texture, and up to a 50% improvement in skin color tone. These improvements happened through the consistent use of infrared stimulation. Take a look at the excerpt below taken from an abstract of the actual study:

“These results suggest that infrared radiation may have beneficial effects on skin texture and wrinkles by increasing collagen and elastin contents from the stimulated fibroblasts. Therefore, skin treatment with infrared radiation may be an effective and safe non-ablative remodeling method, and may also be useful in the treatment of photo-aged skin.”¹

Dermal fibroblasts are key to the production of collagen and support the layers of skin for repair and for acting as a barrier to the outside elements.

The bottom line is, infrared workouts are not only good for rejuvenation of the muscles and the mind, infrared training is good for your skin too!
