Four and a half years ago HOTWORX filed for a patent and subsequently filed for another patent in an effort to protect the innovative sauna design and function. Copycats, or design thieves as I like to call them, can now beware. I am very pleased to announce that as of June 10 we were approved for our design patent! After multiple lawyers and many, many hours and days of work, toil and anxiety we finally were granted what is probably the most important piece of our patent puzzle, a patent for the sauna design. After years of patent pending status, it is nice that we can now say that the HOTWORX workout sauna is patented. The official title of the invention as applied for and approved is:

Over the past three years I have written many articles concerning infrared and fitness. Sometimes I am still asked very basic questions such as “what is infrared?” And, sometimes, well, actually more than just sometimes, I am still looked at with a deer in the headlights expression when I begin to explain “infrared fitness”.

I attended a functional training seminar recently at the Athletic Business Show that was held in New Orleans. The room was filled with trainers from all over the country. Most of the crowd in attendance was affiliated with the military either active duty, or non-military contract fitness trainers. The presenter, Anthony Wall, representing the American Council on Exercise (ACE), delivered a powerful and interactive speech on functional training.

There is a lot of confusion today with respect to EMF, which stands for electromagnetic field, and how it relates to infrared saunas and the health effects of these charged particles on the human body. EMF’s are electric and magnetic fields of energy that are created by electronic devices including cell phones, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, etc. We are concerned with infrared sauna heaters, which is also an electrical device that emits low level electromagnetic radiation.
